School attendance system — registers in seconds, alerts to parents.

ZamSkools gives every Zambian school a fast, daily class register: mark a whole class present, absent or late in seconds, see an instant summary, and let parents know the same day their child missed school — by SMS or USSD, on any phone.

Short answer

A school attendance system lets teachers mark who is present each day and turns that into summaries, alerts and records. In ZamSkools, a teacher opens the class register in the web portal or Android app, taps each pupil present or absent, and the register saves instantly. Parents of absent pupils get an SMS absentee alert, attendance totals appear on the report card, and parents can check attendance themselves by dialling USSD *388*11#. It is part of the all-in-one platform and free to start for up to 100 pupils.

📋 What the attendance system does

One register a day, and everything else flows from it.

Daily class registers

Every enrolled pupil is already listed for the class. Mark the whole register present, absent or late in a few taps — no paper, no counting by hand.

Instant summaries

As you mark, ZamSkools totals how many are present and absent for the class that day, so the count is done the moment you finish.

SMS absentee alerts

Parents of absent pupils get a message on any phone the same day, so a child skipping school does not go unnoticed.

Attendance on report cards

Attendance totals carry through to each pupil's report card, alongside their results — one record for the term.

Parents check via USSD

Parents dial *388*11# on any phone — no smartphone, no internet, no app — to check their child's attendance, fees and results.

Works on web and the app

Teachers mark registers from the web portal or the free Android app, so it works on a school computer or a phone in the classroom.

How attendance tracking works

From opening the register to the alert reaching a parent — four steps.

  1. Open the class register

A teacher opens today's register for their class in the web portal or Android app. Every enrolled pupil is already there.

  2. Mark present, absent or late

Tap each pupil's status. The register saves in seconds and shows an instant present / absent summary for the class.

  3. Parents of absentees are alerted

An SMS absentee alert goes to the parents of pupils marked absent — the same day, on any phone.

  4. Review it anywhere

Attendance appears on the report card, and parents can check it themselves on the web, the app, or by dialling *388*11#.

⚖️ What to expect — honest notes

The strengths, and the limits worth knowing before you switch.

Strong on speed & reach

Marking a class takes seconds, and because alerts go by SMS and USSD, you reach every parent — including those without a smartphone or data.

SMS is pay-as-you-go

Every school gets 100 free SMS on signup; after that, absentee alerts and other messages are K0.30 each. Attendance marking itself is free. See pricing →

Alerts need a parent phone on file

An absentee SMS only reaches a parent whose phone number is recorded on the pupil. Adding guardians at setup makes alerts work from day one.

Part of one platform, not a bolt-on

Attendance shares the same pupils, classes and parent contacts as fees, results and report cards — nothing to sync, one record per pupil. See all features →

💡 Who does what. Teachers mark the daily register in the Teacher portal; parents see attendance, results and fees in the Parent portal — or on USSD *388*11# if they have no smartphone. School admins see attendance across every class.
